02   D-sub connector is a type of electrical connector that is used mainly in computing and video cable. It is most commonly used for video connections, such as those between a monitor and computer. D-sub monitor inputs include a female port on the computer for graphic display output, a cable, and a corresponding male port on the monitor. Commercial cables have a molded connector on each end, one male and one female, each with a D-shaped metal shield and three rows with five pins each, called DB-15, and two rows with 5/pins in one side, 4/pins in another rows, called DB-9. DB (or D-sub) connectors such as DB9, HD15 and DB25 can be used for many types of devices including monitors, videos, keyboards and mice. 04  Connectors are available in vertical and right angle board mount types as well as solder cup for panel mount cable applications. Standard D-Subs are available in 9, 15, and 25 position male versions only, and high density D-Subs are available in 15, 26, and 44 position male versions only. A D-Sub female connector installed on the monitor side and a D-Sub male connector on the cable side. A D-Sub cable features a screw on each end of the connector that can be turned by hand to prevent unintended disconnection.
