01 A USB cable can have numerous types of plug ends, the style of which is called a connector. Connector types include Standard-A, Standard-B, Mini-B, Micro-A, Micro-B, and Micro-AB. These plugs go into corresponding receptacles built into hosts and devices. Standard-A receptacles are the type commonly referred to as USB ports on computers; Standard-B receptacles are usually found on large peripheral devices such as printers and scanners; Mini and micro receptacles are usually on small devices like digital cameras and cellular phones; Mini-AB receptacle are, according to the standard, only on USB On-The-Go devices. Most USB cables that connect a device to a computer will have a Standard-A plug on one end and another type of plug on the other.
02 USB (Universal Serial Bus) cables are everywhere. USB Type-A connectors are extremely common and will likely be at one end of a lot of USB cables nowadays. You can connect various devices such as smartphones, cameras, keyboards, and more to computers to transfer data, or plug into wall chargers to charge these gadgets with a Type-A port.
To this end, there are three primary types of cables: traditional, USB 2.0 and USB 3.0, all of which feature significant speed differences.
One 6-foot-long (1.8 meters) high-speed multi-shielded USB 2.0 A-Male to B-Male cable
Connects mice, keyboards, and speed-critical devices, such as external hard drives, printers, and cameras to your computer
Constructed with corrosion-resistant, gold-plated connectors for optimal signal clarity and shielding to minimize interference
Full 2.0 USB capability/480 Mbps transfer speed
One key difference between the USB 2.0 and 3.0 cables is their pinouts. A USB 2.0 can only have as many as 4 or 5, but a USB 3.0 has 9. This is one of the main reasons a USB 3.0 cable can offer much more transfer rate than your USB 2.0. The cables of a USB 3.0 will also tend to be slightly thicker because of having more wires inside it, and can only reach 3 meters to be effective. That being said, it will also cost more. USB 2.0 cable offers a maximum speed of 480MB/s, but USB 3.0 offers max speed of 5GB, And finally, USB 3.0 cable is backwards compatible, but as long as a USB 2.0 port or cable is in use, even though your system can handle a USB 3.0, the performance will always be with your USB 2.0’s performance.
Cables will also have different combinations of plugs on each end, whether it may be an A-type or B-type plug. You can refer to this table matrix for different plug combinations.

USB was designed to standardize the connection of peripherals to personal computers, both to communicate with and to supply electric power. It has largely replaced interfaces such as serial ports and parallel ports, and has become commonplace on a wide range of devices. Examples of peripherals that are connected via USB include computer keyboards and mice, video cameras, printers, portable media players, disk drives and network adapters.
USB connectors have been increasingly replacing other types as charging cables of portable devices.
